Institut für Bilddiagnostik is a private diagnostic imaging centre in Offenbach am Main, located minutes from Frankfurt city centre. It was founded by Prof. Dr. mult. Michael K. Stehling — a radiologist holding three doctoral degrees who trained at Harvard Medical School and worked alongside Sir Peter Mansfield, the physicist who shared the 2003 Nobel Prize in Medicine for MRI. The institute's lung cancer screening programme follows the ELCAP (Early Lung Cancer Action Program) protocol, the methodology behind the landmark study showing annual low-dose CT can detect 85% of lung cancers at their earliest, most curable stage. At that stage, surgical cure rates reach 92% — compared to 80–90% five-year mortality when lung cancer is detected symptomatically. Screening is recommended for individuals who have smoked at least one pack per day for more than ten years, with annual CT follow-up. Cardiac risk assessment is handled through Cardio-CT with Agatston calcium scoring, quantifying coronary artery calcification to predict heart attack risk more precisely than traditional risk factors alone. A score of zero effectively rules out near-term cardiac events; elevated scores guide preventive treatment decisions with evidence from large retrospective studies. The medical team includes Dr. med. Markus Sens (30+ years MRI diagnostics, doctorate on MRI relaxation measurement), Dr. univ. Hadi Zomorrodian (oncology imaging and interventions fellow, senior physician trained at Goethe University Frankfurt), and Dr. med. Philip Hohmann (Q1-certified cardiac CT specialist per the German Radiological Society). Services are available to self-pay and privately insured patients; statutory health insurance is not accepted.
