Tooth Extraction

Type

Extraction

Duration

45 min

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that cannot be saved — for example through severe decay, fracture, advanced gum disease or to relieve crowding. At AS-Dent Studio extractions are carried out under local anaesthetic by a dental surgeon, with surgical removal available for teeth that are broken down or impacted. Aftercare and follow-up are provided, including managing problems such as a dry socket.

Extraction is the removal of a tooth and is recommended when a tooth is too damaged or diseased to be repaired, is causing infection, or needs to be taken out for surgical or orthodontic reasons. Although saving teeth is always preferred, a timely extraction can relieve pain and prevent infection from spreading. At AS-Dent Studio extractions are performed under local anaesthetic by a dentist experienced in oral surgery. A straightforward extraction removes a tooth that is accessible and intact, while a surgical extraction is used for teeth that are broken at the gum line, have curved or fused roots, or are partly buried — sometimes requiring a small incision and sectioning of the tooth for careful removal. A cone-beam CT scan may be taken first for impacted or complex teeth so the surgeon can plan around nearby nerves and sinuses. The clinic also completes extractions that were begun elsewhere and treats post-extraction complications such as a dry socket, where the healing blood clot is lost and the site becomes painful. After the procedure you are given clear aftercare instructions to support healing and reduce the risk of complications, and sutures, if placed, are removed free of charge for the clinic's own patients. Where the extracted tooth will need replacing, options such as an implant, bridge or denture can be discussed and, for front or visible teeth, planned in advance. The dentist reviews your medical history and any factors affecting healing before proceeding.
