Root Canal Treatment (Microscope)

Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and disinfects the canals and seals them to save a tooth that would otherwise be lost. At AS-Dent Studio endodontic treatment is carried out using a microscope for magnified, precise work, with options for retreating a previously root-filled tooth and for managing complications such as a broken instrument or a perforation. It relieves pain and preserves your natural tooth.

Root canal (endodontic) treatment is needed when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp — becomes inflamed or infected through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this causes pain and abscesses and usually leads to losing the tooth. Treatment removes the diseased pulp, shapes and disinfects the fine canals inside the roots, and seals them so the tooth can be restored and kept. At AS-Dent Studio endodontic treatment is performed under a dental operating microscope, which magnifies and illuminates the inside of the tooth so the dentist can locate and clean the canals thoroughly — important because root canal anatomy is often narrow and complex. A cone-beam CT scan may be used beforehand to map difficult roots. The clinic carries out both primary treatment and re-treatment (re-endo) of teeth that were root-filled previously but have re-infected, and can manage complications such as retrieving a separated instrument, removing old filling material or sealing a perforation with a biocompatible material. Where the tooth is badly broken down, a core build-up restores enough structure to treat and later crown it. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and often over one or two visits depending on the tooth. A root-treated tooth is frequently protected afterwards with a crown to prevent fracture, which is quoted separately. The dentist will explain the prognosis for the specific tooth and any factors that affect it before starting.
