Over time, plaque hardens into tartar that cannot be removed by brushing and harbours bacteria, leading to gum inflammation, bad breath and, if left, gum disease and bone loss. A hygiene appointment removes these deposits and helps prevent decay and periodontal problems. At AS-Dent Studio the hygiene package combines scaling to remove tartar from above and around the gum line, polishing to lift surface staining and smooth the teeth, and fluoridation to strengthen the enamel and reduce sensitivity. For patients with gum disease, the clinic provides deeper periodontal care, including closed curettage of a quarter of the mouth with locally applied medication to clean the root surfaces beneath the gum and help the tissues recover. Where chalky white spots are present — often after orthodontic treatment or as early enamel changes — the ICON resin-infiltration method can improve their appearance without drilling, treated tooth by tooth. The hygienist or dentist also advises on brushing, interdental cleaning and any areas that need extra attention at home.
