Full Ceramic Crown

A full ceramic crown is a tooth-coloured cap that covers and protects a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth while restoring its shape, strength and appearance. At AS-Dent Studio crowns are made from all-ceramic materials for a natural look without a metal core, and a temporary crown protects the tooth while the final restoration is made. Crowns are a durable way to save a tooth that is too compromised for a simple filling.

A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that fits over the whole visible part of a tooth, used when decay, a large old filling, a crack or root canal treatment has left too little healthy tooth for a filling to be reliable. By encasing the tooth, the crown protects it from further damage and restores normal shape, biting strength and appearance. At AS-Dent Studio the tooth is first prepared and shaped, then digitally scanned or impressed so a full ceramic crown can be made to fit precisely and match the colour of the surrounding teeth. All-ceramic materials are used for a natural, translucent appearance without the grey line that can show with metal-based crowns, which is particularly valuable for front teeth. A temporary composite crown protects and seals the prepared tooth between appointments. When the final crown is ready it is checked for fit, contact with neighbouring teeth and bite, then cemented in place and polished. The clinic can also cement a crown that was made elsewhere or remove an old crown when required. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups a ceramic crown can last many years; the dentist will advise on caring for the crowned tooth and the gum around it. Suitability depends on how much sound tooth and root remain, which is assessed before treatment.
