eMatrix Radiofrequency Skin Treatment

Type

Skin Tightening

Duration

40 min

eMatrix is a non-invasive radiofrequency device that delivers bipolar RF energy at three selectable intensity levels to stimulate deep skin remodelling — promoting collagen and elastin production to reduce wrinkles, stretch marks, acne scars, post-injury scars and enlarged pores. Unlike ablative lasers, eMatrix does not target melanin, making it suitable for darker, tanned or post-summer skin types. At Artmedica Clinic Prague the eMatrix is used alone or in combination with microneedling for enhanced penetration and connective tissue remodelling.

Radiofrequency (RF) energy penetrates the skin to the dermal layer and beyond, where it generates resistive heat in tissue. Unlike laser energy, which is absorbed by specific chromophores (melanin, haemoglobin), RF energy is indifferent to pigment — it heats tissue based on its electrical resistance characteristics, affecting the dermis and subdermis uniformly regardless of skin colour. This makes RF devices like eMatrix among the most versatile and skin-tone-inclusive technologies in aesthetic medicine. The eMatrix device delivers bipolar RF — current flows between two electrodes on the same handpiece, creating a controlled heating zone of defined depth and diameter between the poles. This confines the thermal effect precisely to the target depth in the dermis, avoiding epidermal surface damage or unpredictable heat spread. Three intensity settings allow the operator to calibrate treatment depth and thermal dose to the patient's skin condition, age and tolerance: lower settings for sensitive or thin skin (décolletage, hands), medium settings for standard facial concerns, and higher settings for established scars or significant skin laxity. The thermal effect on collagen is two-phase. Immediately after the RF pulse, existing collagen fibres partially denature and contract — producing an immediate mild tightening. Over the following weeks, the heated fibroblasts produce new collagen to replace and add to the remodelled fibres; this progressive remodelling continues over two to four months after each session. The net result is improved skin texture, firmness and reduction in the appearance of scars, stretch marks and enlarged pores. At Artmedica Clinic Prague the eMatrix can be combined with microneedling in the same session. Microneedling creates physical micro-channels through the epidermis that allow topical actives applied after treatment to penetrate to the dermis, and the combination of mechanical puncture and RF heating produces more intensive fibroblast activation than either modality achieves alone. This combined protocol — listed with lidocaine as a comfort measure — is particularly effective for established acne scarring and pronounced wrinkles. Treatment sessions are typically performed three to five weeks apart; most indications benefit from three to five sessions. There is no significant peeling or ablation; post-treatment redness and mild swelling resolve within one to two days. SPF 50+ use is recommended during and after the course.
