PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy harvests the patient's own growth factors from a small blood draw, concentrates them by centrifugation and reintroduces the plasma via micro-needle injection into the face, eye area or scalp. The concentrated growth factors stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen, improve skin elasticity, reduce fine wrinkles and under-eye circles, and — on the scalp — extend the active growth phase of hair follicles. At Artmedica Clinic Prague the protocol treats face, periorbital area and hair loss, with a standard three-session course for optimal results.
Platelet-rich plasma therapy draws on the body's own tissue repair biology. Platelets are primarily known for their role in haemostasis, but they are also repositories of alpha-granules containing growth factors — bioactive proteins that regulate cell proliferation, migration and differentiation in wound healing contexts. Key growth factors in PRP include platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and insulin-like growth factor (IGF). When concentrated PRP is deposited in tissue that needs regeneration, these factors activate the local cell population: fibroblasts begin producing new collagen and elastin; endothelial cells form new capillaries; stem cells in the hair follicle bulge are pushed towards proliferation. At Artmedica Clinic Prague the PRP preparation process begins with a venous blood draw of approximately 20 ml. The sample is placed in a centrifuge that spins it to separate red blood cells, platelet-poor plasma and the platelet-rich fraction. The PRP concentrate is withdrawn into injection syringes and delivered immediately — because growth factors are most active when freshly released from intact platelets upon application. For facial rejuvenation the PRP is applied via micro-needle injection across the cheeks, perioral area, forehead and other zones of concern. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 45 minutes before the procedure; the micro-needles themselves produce only brief discomfort. Immediate post-procedure redness and minor swelling are expected and resolve within hours to two to three days; occasional bruising at injection points clears within a week. The clinical improvement in skin quality — smoother texture, improved elasticity, reduction in fine lines and under-eye circles — becomes apparent two to three weeks after each session as new collagen matures, and lasts up to twelve months. For hair loss the PRP is injected into the scalp at perifollicular level across the thinning zones. VEGF and PDGF specifically promote follicle vascularisation and extend the anagen phase, giving follicles more time to produce a longer, thicker hair shaft before entering the resting phase. Artmedica's hair PRP protocol of three sessions is most effective for androgenetic alopecia (early to moderate), stress-related and hormonal hair loss, and post-partum hair thinning. Results are visible after several weeks as the treated follicles complete a growth cycle — stronger, more resilient strands and reduced daily shedding.
