Injectable Lipolysis (Fat-Dissolving Injections)

Injectable lipolysis uses a precisely calibrated mixture of fat-dissolving active substances injected via fine needle directly into localised fat pockets. The solution disrupts adipocyte membranes, releasing fat into the extracellular space where it is processed via the lymphatic system and transported to the liver for metabolism. Injectable lipolysis — often referred to by the brand name Aqualyx or by the active substance phosphatidylcholine with sodium deoxycholate — is a non-surgical fat reduction technique for localised, pinchable fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. The injectable formula contains surfactant molecules that disrupt the lipid bilayer of adipocyte (fat cell) membranes, causing lysis (cell breakdown) and release of the intracellular triglyceride contents. These released lipids and cellular debris are phagocytosed by local macrophages, transported via the lymphatic drainage network and eventually processed by the liver — eliminating the fat in a manner analogous to natural fat catabolism, just localised and accelerated. The number of injection points and vials used depends on the size of the area and the thickness of the fat layer assessed at consultation.
