CT Abdomen

Type

CT Scan

Duration

25 min

CT of the abdomen covering liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, and bowel at €97. Combination with chest (€196) or chest + pelvis (€305) available in one session. Contrast billed separately at €24.50 base.

AGEL Rádiológia's CT abdomen at €97 provides cross-sectional imaging of all upper abdominal organs — liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands, bowel loops, and retroperitoneal structures — using the 128-slice Siemens Somatom Perspective. The examination generates axial, coronal, and sagittal reconstructions that allow systematic organ-by-organ evaluation alongside assessment of the mesentery, peritoneum, and major abdominal vessels. Multi-phase contrast protocols (arterial, portal venous, delayed) substantially improve detection and characterisation of liver lesions, pancreatic neoplasms, renal cell carcinoma, and lymphoma. The contrast agent is billed separately at €24.50 base with an additional volume-dependent surcharge — for most abdominal studies involving dual or triple phase, the total contrast charge reflects the volume injected at each phase. Patients with known renal impairment should declare this at booking so pre-hydration or alternative protocols can be arranged. For bowel pathology of the small intestine, the facility also offers CT enteroclysis (CT enterografia) — a dedicated small bowel examination with distension by oral contrast — using the Preparation Package (€20) for pre-examination bowel preparation. The full large bowel can similarly be assessed by CT irigography (CT colonography equivalent), also offered by the department. Combined examinations in a single session provide the most clinically complete abdominal assessment. Chest combined with abdomen is €196, and the full thoracoabdominal + pelvic study (all three regions in one session) is €305 — particularly valuable for oncology staging, polytrauma assessment (€345), and acute abdominal presentations requiring comprehensive survey. The department has operated since 2004 and is staffed by ten radiologists alongside qualified radiographers. Patient preparation for standard abdominal CT requires fasting for at least six hours. Full preparation instructions — including guidelines for diabetic patients on metformin who must withhold medication 24 hours before contrast — are provided at booking. Results and CD image copies are available approximately seven working days after examination.
