CT Angiography

Type

CT Angiography

Duration

45 min

Contrast-enhanced CT imaging of blood vessels to detect stenosis, aneurysms, dissection, and vascular malformations. Available for coronary, carotid, aortic, cerebral, renal, and peripheral vascular territories. Performed on the GE Revolution GSI CT with spectral imaging for precise vessel characterisation.

CT angiography (CTA) at Affidea Praha uses intravenous contrast to opacify the arterial or venous system during high-speed CT acquisition, producing three-dimensional visualisation of blood vessels throughout the body. The GE Revolution GSI scanner's 256-detector array and spectral imaging capability make it particularly well suited to CTA: rapid gantry rotation minimises motion blur, dual-energy capability improves contrast-to-noise ratios, and virtual monochromatic reconstructions can suppress calcium blooming that would otherwise obscure vessel lumens on calcium-heavy plaques. The coronary CTA (CTCA) protocol evaluates the origin, course, and patency of the left main, left anterior descending, circumflex, and right coronary arteries. As a non-invasive alternative to diagnostic catheter coronary angiography, CTCA is indicated in patients with chest pain, atypical angina, inconclusive stress tests, or an intermediate pre-test probability of obstructive coronary artery disease. A high negative predictive value means that a normal CTCA effectively rules out significant stenosis in appropriately selected patients. Aortic CTA covers the thoracic aorta (dissection, aneurysm, aortitis), abdominal aorta (aneurysm surveillance, renal artery stenosis), and iliofemoral vessels (peripheral arterial disease). Cerebral and carotid CTA is available for stroke workup, carotid stenosis grading, and cerebral aneurysm evaluation. Pulmonary CTA (CT pulmonary angiogram, CTPA) is the standard investigation for suspected pulmonary embolism. All angiographic examinations are reported by the Affidea Praha radiology team with subspecialty interpretation. Reports include multiplanar reformats, maximum intensity projections, and three-dimensional reconstructions where clinically relevant. A contrast questionnaire and brief preparation instructions are provided at booking.
