The core panel covers key hormonal markers including total testosterone, free testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), luteinising hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and prolactin. These markers allow the doctor to distinguish between primary testicular dysfunction and secondary pituitary-hypothalamic causes of testosterone deficiency, guiding appropriate treatment. Oestradiol is measured to assess testosterone-to-oestrogen conversion, which is relevant for men on or considering TRT.
