Type
Red Light Therapy
Duration
15 min
A fifteen-minute full-body photobiomodulation session using red and near-infrared LED wavelengths. The light energy penetrates skin and tissue to interact with mitochondrial chromophores, supporting increased adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production at the cellular level. This non-invasive treatment is associated with improved collagen synthesis, reduced inflammation, and enhanced tissue repair.
Full-body photobiomodulation (PBM) at Wellspring delivers therapeutic wavelengths of red and near-infrared light across the entire body for approximately fifteen minutes. Red light in the 630 to 660 nanometre range primarily supports superficial tissue processes including collagen production, wound healing, and skin rejuvenation. Near-infrared wavelengths at 810 to 850 nanometres penetrate deeper into muscle, tendon, and joint tissue, where they may support recovery and reduce inflammation. The underlying mechanism involves photons being absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase within the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This interaction may increase ATP output, reduce intracellular oxidative stress, and trigger downstream signalling pathways associated with cellular repair. No ultraviolet light is emitted, so there is no risk of tanning or UV-related skin damage. Photobiomodulation has been studied across a range of applications including exercise performance, post-surgical healing, joint conditions, and skin health. While evidence quality varies by application, the treatment is well-tolerated with an excellent safety profile. Wellspring offers PBM as a standalone session or as part of a stacked protocol alongside cryotherapy and compression therapy. Clients typically wear minimal clothing to maximise light exposure, and protective eye shields are provided.
