A strong topical anaesthetic is applied and the filler products also contain lidocaine, so the procedure is generally well tolerated. The gel is placed with a fine needle or cannula and shaped by hand; results are immediate, though lips commonly swell for 24 to 48 hours and small bruises can occur. The final shape is usually clear within one to two weeks. Hyaluronic acid lip filler tends to last around six to nine months, as the lips are mobile and metabolise filler relatively quickly. As with all hyaluronic acid treatments, the result can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you wish to adjust or reverse it.
