CO2 laser energy at 10,600nm is absorbed strongly by water molecules in skin cells. The rapid, localised vaporisation of these cells — both in the epidermis and the upper dermis — removes the damaged surface layers (sun damage, fine lines, pigmentation irregularities, texture roughness) while the thermal energy conducted into the deeper dermis stimulates a sustained collagen remodelling response.
