Vitamin D exists in the blood in two forms: 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcidiol), the main inactive storage form, and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, the active form. A laboratory nurse takes a venous sample; no fasting is required. Payment is made directly at the draw and results are returned through the laboratory's standard channels.
