Type
CT Scan
Duration
20 min
A cone-beam CT scan produces a detailed 3D image of the teeth, jawbone and surrounding structures, used to plan implants, assess wisdom teeth and locate root canals accurately. The scan is taken on site in about a minute and uses a lower radiation dose than a conventional medical CT. It gives the dentist precise information on bone volume and the position of nerves and the sinus before surgical or complex treatment.
Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a dental imaging technique that captures a three-dimensional picture of the teeth, jawbones, nerve pathways and sinuses. Unlike a flat 2D X-ray, a 3D scan lets the dentist view structures from any angle and take accurate measurements, which is invaluable when planning implant placement, evaluating impacted wisdom teeth, investigating the internal anatomy of a tooth before root canal treatment, or assessing bone and pathology that a standard X-ray cannot fully show. At Unimedex the scan is performed on site: you stand or sit still while the scanner rotates around your head, capturing the data in well under a minute. CBCT uses a cone-shaped beam that delivers a markedly lower radiation dose than a conventional medical (fan-beam) CT scanner while still providing the detail needed for surgical planning. Having imaging available in the clinic means treatment can be planned and often started in the same visit, which is particularly convenient for patients travelling from abroad. The clinic offers a full-jaw scan as well as a smaller single-segment scan when only one area needs to be assessed, alongside traditional panoramic and intraoral X-rays for routine diagnostics. The resulting images are reviewed with you so you can understand the findings and how they shape your treatment plan. A scan is recommended where precise three-dimensional information improves the safety and predictability of treatment, and the dentist will advise when it is genuinely needed rather than as a routine.
