About this treatment
Diabetes and pre-diabetes affect an estimated 10–12% of Czech adults, with many cases undiagnosed for years before complications develop. The Unilabs diabetes panel provides the three most clinically useful markers for assessing current glucose status and metabolic risk in a single fasting blood draw.
Fasting glucose (blood sugar) is the most direct measure of glucose regulation at a single point in time. A fasting level above 5.6 mmol/L indicates pre-diabetes; above 7.0 mmol/L on two separate occasions indicates diabetes.
HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) reflects average blood glucose over the preceding 2–3 months, because glucose binds to haemoglobin in red blood cells proportionally to its concentration. It is unaffected by a single meal and provides a longer-term picture than fasting glucose. HbA1c above 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) indicates diabetes; 42–47 mmol/mol (6.0–6.4%) indicates pre-diabetes.
