Type
MRI Scan
Duration
45 min
A multiparametric 3 Tesla MRI of the prostate, combining several imaging sequences to assess the gland in detail. It is widely used in men being evaluated for prostate concerns, including those with a raised PSA, and to map the gland before or after other procedures. The multiparametric approach gives a thorough picture of the prostate's zones and tissue characteristics. The examination is read by a specialist radiologist, with a written report emailed within 72 hours.
Multiparametric MRI of the prostate is a specialised examination that combines several different MRI sequences — anatomical imaging together with techniques that assess tissue cellularity and blood flow — to build a comprehensive picture of the prostate gland and its surrounding tissues. Performing all of these in one sitting is what the term multiparametric refers to, and it is the modern standard for detailed prostate imaging. At Ultra MR the study is carried out on a Siemens MAGNETOM 3 Tesla scanner, whose high field strength is associated with the image quality this protocol requires, and it is interpreted by a specialist in radiology and imaging diagnostics. The examination is commonly requested for men with a raised PSA blood test, for those being assessed for prostate concerns, for active-surveillance follow-up, and to map the gland before or after targeted procedures. For the scan you lie on your back and stay still while the various sequences are acquired; the protocol is longer than a routine MRI and the appointment generally lasts around forty to forty-five minutes. Staff will advise on any preparation when you book, such as attending with a comfortably — but not over — full bladder and, in some cases, an empty rectum. The combination of sequences allows the radiologist to describe the different zones of the prostate and the characteristics of any areas of interest in a structured report. Ultra MR's report is emailed within 72 hours, with an express same-day CITO report or a Ukrainian-language report available for an additional fee. No referral is required to book, and bringing your PSA results and any previous imaging helps the radiologist place the findings in context.
