Type
MRI Scan
Duration
40 min
A 3 Tesla MRI of the small (lesser) pelvis, imaging the pelvic organs and surrounding soft tissues in detail without radiation. In women it is used to assess the uterus, ovaries and nearby structures; more broadly it examines the bladder, lower bowel and pelvic floor. It is often arranged to characterise a finding seen on ultrasound. A contrast-enhanced version is available at a higher price, and a specialist radiologist's report is emailed within 72 hours.
An MRI of the small pelvis produces detailed images of the organs and soft tissues within the lower pelvis. In women this includes the uterus, cervix, ovaries and the surrounding tissues; in all patients it can show the bladder, the lower bowel and the muscles and structures of the pelvic floor. The high soft-tissue contrast of MRI makes it well suited to examining this region, and it is frequently used to clarify or characterise a finding first seen on ultrasound. At Ultra MR the scan is performed on a Siemens MAGNETOM 3 Tesla system and interpreted by a specialist radiologist. The examination is commonly requested to take a closer look at the female pelvic organs, to assess the bladder or lower bowel, or to follow up a previously noted change. For the scan you lie on your back and remain still while the sequences are acquired; staff will advise on any preparation when you book, which may include attending with a partially full bladder and, in some protocols, a period without eating beforehand. A pelvic MRI generally takes around thirty-five to forty minutes. Where additional information is needed, a contrast-enhanced pelvic study using an intravenous gadolinium agent is available at a higher price. Please tell the team in advance about kidney problems, previous contrast reactions or the possibility of pregnancy, as these are checked before any contrast is given. The radiologist's written report is emailed within 72 hours, with express CITO and Ukrainian-language reporting offered as paid options. No referral is required to book, and bringing any previous imaging assists with comparison.
