Type
MRI Scan
Duration
30 min
An MR angiography of the head, a specialised MRI technique that images the blood vessels of the brain. It can often be performed without contrast, using flow-sensitive sequences, and is used to look at the arteries supplying the brain. It is sometimes combined with a standard brain MRI. The examination is performed on the clinic's 3 Tesla scanner and read by a specialist radiologist, with a written report emailed within 72 hours.
MR angiography (ANGIO MR) of the head is a specialised application of MRI that visualises the blood vessels of the brain rather than the brain tissue itself. Using flow-sensitive sequences, it can frequently depict the cerebral arteries without the need for any contrast injection, which is one of the advantages of the technique. At Ultra MR the examination is performed on a Siemens MAGNETOM 3 Tesla scanner and interpreted by a specialist in radiology and imaging diagnostics. The study is used to examine the arteries that supply the brain and is often requested alongside a standard brain MRI when both the brain tissue and its blood vessels are of interest. For the scan you lie on your back with your head supported and stay as still as possible, since movement can degrade the vascular images; hearing protection is provided. A head MR angiography typically adds little to the overall appointment and usually takes around twenty-five to thirty minutes on its own. No special preparation or fasting is needed for the standard time-of-flight technique, and because contrast is often not required, the examination is straightforward for most patients. Where a particular question calls for it, contrast-enhanced vascular imaging can be arranged for an additional fee. The radiologist's written report is emailed within 72 hours, with express same-day CITO reporting and Ukrainian-language reporting available as paid options. As with Ultra MR's other examinations, no referral is required to book, and bringing any previous brain or vascular imaging helps the radiologist with comparison.
