Type
MRI Scan
Duration
40 min
A 3 Tesla MRI of the abdomen, imaging the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and adrenal glands without radiation. It is used to look more closely at the abdominal organs, often to follow up a finding seen on ultrasound or to characterise a previously noted change. MRI gives excellent soft-tissue contrast for these organs. A contrast-enhanced version and a dedicated liver protocol are available at higher prices, and a radiologist's report is emailed within 72 hours.
An MRI of the abdomen produces detailed images of the solid and hollow organs of the upper abdomen — the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, the pancreas, the spleen, the kidneys and the adrenal glands. The strong soft-tissue contrast of MRI makes it valuable for examining these organs, and it is often used to clarify or characterise a finding first noticed on ultrasound or another test. At Ultra MR the examination is performed on a Siemens MAGNETOM 3 Tesla scanner and interpreted by a specialist radiologist. The scan is commonly requested to take a closer look at the liver or pancreas, to characterise a lesion seen on a previous study, or to assess the kidneys and other abdominal structures. For abdominal MRI you usually need to arrive having not eaten for a few hours, as fasting reduces movement in the bowel and gallbladder and improves image quality; staff confirm the exact instructions when you book. During the scan you lie on your back and will be asked to hold your breath for short periods so the images are not blurred by breathing. The appointment generally lasts around thirty-five to forty minutes. Where additional information is needed, a contrast-enhanced abdominal study or a dedicated contrast-enhanced liver protocol is available at a higher price; these involve an intravenous gadolinium agent and are offered as in-clinic examinations. Let the team know in advance about kidney problems, previous contrast reactions or possible pregnancy. The radiologist's written report is emailed within 72 hours, with express CITO and Ukrainian-language reporting available as paid options. No referral is required to book, but bringing previous imaging helps with comparison.
