An extraction is the removal of a tooth, carried out when a tooth is too broken down or decayed to restore, is causing infection, is severely loose from gum disease, or — in the case of impacted wisdom teeth — is stuck and causing problems. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, and afterwards the dentist gives advice on healing and on replacing the tooth if needed.
