IV Vitamin Therapy
Duration
15 min
Intramuscular or intravenous glutathione injection delivering the body's primary endogenous antioxidant directly into circulation. Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of glutamine, cysteine, and glycine that plays a central role in detoxification, free radical neutralisation, and immune cell function.
Glutathione is often described as the body's master antioxidant — a tripeptide (gamma-glutamylcysteinylglycine) that is synthesised in every cell and concentrated most heavily in the liver, where it plays a critical role in phase II detoxification pathways. It directly neutralises reactive oxygen species, regenerates other antioxidants including vitamins C and E, and is essential for the proper function of T-cells, natural killer cells, and other components of the adaptive immune system. Oral glutathione supplementation has historically been limited by poor bioavailability — the molecule is broken down by digestive enzymes before reaching systemic circulation in meaningful quantities. Injectable glutathione bypasses this limitation entirely, delivering the intact tripeptide directly into the bloodstream or muscle tissue where it can be distributed to cells throughout the body. At TGWAC, the glutathione injection takes approximately 15 minutes and is often administered as a standalone treatment or added to the end of another IV session such as a Myers Cocktail or high-dose vitamin C infusion. The combination of glutathione with vitamin C is particularly common, as the two antioxidants work synergistically — vitamin C recycles oxidised glutathione back to its active reduced form. Endogenous glutathione production declines with age, and levels are further depleted by chronic stress, poor sleep, environmental toxin exposure, alcohol consumption, and certain medications including paracetamol (acetaminophen). This age-related decline has led researchers to investigate glutathione status as a potential biomarker of biological ageing, though establishing direct causal relationships remains an active area of study. The injection is well-tolerated by most patients, with no specific preparation required. Some individuals notice a temporary sulphur taste during administration, which is a normal pharmacological effect of the cysteine component. TGWAC physicians can incorporate glutathione into a broader antioxidant and detoxification-focused protocol tailored to individual patient needs.
