Thomson Medical Centre operates a dedicated MRI Suite equipped with high-field MRI scanners capable of performing a broad range of diagnostic and screening protocols. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses powerful magnetic fields and radiofrequency pulses to generate detailed cross-sectional images of soft tissues, organs, blood vessels, and the nervous system without ionising radiation, making it the investigation of choice for neurological, musculoskeletal, abdominal, and gynaecological assessments. At Thomson Medical, common MRI protocols include brain MRI for headache, cognitive decline, and stroke workup; cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine MRI for disc herniation, stenosis, and nerve compression; knee, shoulder, and hip MRI for ligament, meniscus, and cartilage assessment; and abdominal MRI for liver, pancreas, and kidney characterisation. Cardiac MRI is available for myocardial function and structural assessment. MRI mammography (MR mammogram) is offered for high-risk breast screening in patients with dense breast tissue or known BRCA mutations. Gynaecological MRI evaluates the uterus and ovaries with superior soft-tissue contrast compared to ultrasound. Prostate MRI (mpMRI) is available for prostate cancer detection and staging. All scans are performed by certified radiographers and reported by consultant radiologists, with turnaround times typically within 24 hours and same-day reporting available for urgent cases. Contrast-enhanced protocols using gadolinium-based agents can be added where clinically indicated. Results are delivered via the hospital's secure digital platform and discussed with the referring or screening physician.
