A full surgical facelift addresses the structural causes of facial ageing: descent of the SMAS layer creates jowling and loss of jawline definition; separation of the medial platysmal pillars creates neck banding; accumulated subcutaneous fat in the submental region blunts the cervicomental angle; and stretched, inelastic skin amplifies these structural changes.
