The appointment includes assessment of gum health, removal of supragingival tartar and plaque with ultrasonic scaling, stain removal by airflow polishing, and personalised home-care instruction covering brushing technique and interdental cleaning. Regular professional hygiene is the foundation of decay and periodontitis prevention and is mandatory every 3–6 months for the clinic's orthodontic and implant patients to keep treatment results healthy and stable.
About this treatment
Professional dental hygiene removes what home brushing cannot: mineralised tartar (calculus) above and just below the gumline and the bacterial biofilm that drives both caries and gum disease.
What happens in the 60-minute appointment
- Examination of the gums, recording bleeding points and pocket depths where indicated
- Ultrasonic scaling to remove hard tartar deposits
- Airflow/polishing to clear pigment staining from coffee, tea, wine and smoking
- Polishing of tooth surfaces so plaque re-adheres more slowly
