PSA is organ-specific but not cancer-specific. Benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, recent ejaculation, and prolonged cycling can all cause temporary elevations. An abnormal screening result therefore leads to additional workup (typically MRI followed by targeted biopsy) rather than direct treatment decisions.
