Surgical removal of a tooth that cannot be taken out by simple means — for example an impacted, badly broken or awkwardly rooted tooth — performed under local anaesthetic by the clinic's surgeon. The tooth may be sectioned or a small gum flap raised to remove it cleanly, with the site closed and aftercare provided. A surgical extraction is used when a tooth cannot be removed by straightforward means — typically because it is impacted, broken off at or below the gum line, or has curved or fused roots. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and may involve raising a small flap of gum and, in some cases, dividing the tooth into sections so it can be removed with minimal disturbance to the surrounding bone.
