Extraction
Duration
30 min
Removal of a tooth that cannot be saved — because of advanced decay, fracture, infection or crowding — carried out under local anaesthetic. STOMED handles both straightforward extractions and surgical removals of impacted or broken-down teeth, including wisdom teeth, with oral surgery being one of the practice's core areas. The price depends on whether the tooth can be removed simply or needs a surgical approach.
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that can no longer be saved or is causing problems, for example through advanced decay, a deep fracture, severe gum disease, infection around the root, or crowding. At STOMED extractions are carried out under local anaesthetic so the procedure itself is not painful, and oral surgery is one of the clinic's established areas of practice. A simple extraction is used when the tooth is intact enough to be removed directly; a surgical or operative extraction is needed when a tooth is impacted, broken down to the gum line, has curved or fused roots, or otherwise requires the dentist to ease it out in sections, sometimes with a small incision in the gum. This is commonly the case with wisdom teeth, which the clinic lists among its services. Before a more complex extraction the dentist typically reviews an X-ray or 3D scan to assess the position of the tooth and its proximity to nearby structures such as nerves and the sinus, which helps plan a safe procedure — the practice has on-site panoramic and cone-beam imaging for this. Afterwards you will be given clear aftercare instructions to support healing and reduce the risk of complications: a blood clot needs to form and remain in the socket, so the guidance covers what to eat, avoiding rinsing vigorously, and managing any swelling. Mild discomfort, swelling and minor bleeding in the first day or two are normal and usually settle quickly. Where a tooth has been removed from a visible or functional position, the dentist can discuss replacement options such as a dental implant or a bridge to restore appearance and chewing. Where an acute infection or abscess is present, this may first be drained to relieve pressure and pain before or alongside the extraction.
