Take-home whitening uses custom-made trays produced from impressions of your teeth, which you fill with gel and wear at home over a series of days at a gentler concentration. For a single tooth that has darkened from the inside after root canal treatment, internal (non-vital) whitening treats that specific tooth from within so it better matches its neighbours. Whitening lightens natural tooth enamel; it does not change the colour of existing fillings, crowns or veneers, so where these are visible the dentist will discuss expectations and whether any restorations might later be matched to the new shade.
