Crowns & Bridges

Duration

1 hour

Crowns are tooth-shaped caps that restore a broken-down, heavily filled or root-treated tooth, while bridges replace one or more missing teeth by joining crowns across the gap. STOMED offers metal-free zirconia and porcelain options for natural-looking results, as well as porcelain-fused-to-metal and composite alternatives. Prices are per crown unit; a bridge combines several units.

A crown is a custom-made cap that completely covers a damaged tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. Crowns are used when a tooth is too broken down, decayed or heavily filled to be restored with a simple filling, and are frequently recommended after root canal treatment to protect the more brittle remaining tooth structure on back teeth. A bridge is a way of replacing one or more missing teeth without surgery: artificial teeth are joined to crowns fitted over the healthy teeth either side of the gap, restoring appearance and the ability to chew. Prosthetics is one of STOMED's core areas of practice. The clinic offers a range of materials so the restoration can be matched to the tooth's position and the patient's priorities. All-ceramic and zirconia-based crowns are metal-free and translucent, making them well suited to visible front teeth where a natural appearance matters most; porcelain fused to metal combines a tooth-coloured outer layer with a strong metal core; and composite options are also available, alongside temporary acrylic crowns to protect a tooth while the final restoration is made. Treatment usually involves preparing (shaping) the tooth, taking an impression or digital scan, fitting a temporary crown, and then cementing the finished crown at a later visit once it has been crafted to match the colour and contour of your other teeth. A zirconia crown can also be placed over an implant to complete an implant-based replacement. Because a bridge is built from several joined crown units, its total cost depends on the number of units involved, which the dentist will set out clearly after examination. Well-made crowns and bridges, combined with good hygiene and regular check-ups, can last many years. For patients coming from abroad, the laboratory stages mean treatment is generally planned across more than one visit.
