Surgical removal of a wisdom tooth (third molar) that is impacted, partially erupted or causing pain, infection or crowding. Because these teeth often sit at an angle or remain under the gum and bone, removing them can require a minor surgical procedure under local anaesthetic. About this treatment

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come through, usually in the late teens or twenties, and there is often not enough room for them. They can become impacted — stuck against the tooth in front or trapped beneath the gum and bone — which may lead to recurring infections of the overlying gum, decay in the wisdom tooth or its neighbour, cysts, or pressure and crowding. When symptoms occur, removal is commonly advised.
