Root Canal Treatment (Microscope-Assisted)

Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Microscope-assisted root canal treatment to save a tooth whose inner pulp has become inflamed or infected. Working under high magnification, the dentist removes the diseased tissue, cleans and shapes the canals and seals them, then rebuilds the tooth. Pricing depends on the tooth, as molars have more canals than front teeth, and retreatment of a previously root-filled tooth is more involved. Endodontically treated teeth are often later restored with a crown.

Root canal (endodontic) treatment becomes necessary when the soft pulp inside a tooth — its nerves and blood vessels — is irreversibly inflamed or infected, usually from deep decay, a crack or trauma. At Stomatologia na Malarzy the treatment is carried out under a dental operating microscope, which gives the dentist a strongly magnified, well-lit view of the canal system so that fine or curved canals can be located and cleaned more thoroughly. After numbing the tooth, the dentist removes the diseased pulp, disinfects and shapes the root canals and fills them with a sealing material, then restores the tooth so it can function again. Pricing reflects the anatomy of the tooth: incisors and canines usually have a single canal, premolars one or two, and molars three or four, so molars take longer and cost more. Retreatment — reopening and re-cleaning a tooth that was root-filled previously but has flared up again — is more complex and is priced higher accordingly, and additional procedures such as removing a fractured instrument, closing a perforation or sealing an immature root tip with MTA are charged separately when needed. Once the canals are sealed, the tooth is rebuilt, often with a fibreglass post for support, and a molar or heavily broken-down tooth is frequently protected afterwards with a crown to reduce the risk of fracture. Treating the tooth this way may support keeping your natural tooth rather than extracting and replacing it. The dentist explains the number of visits likely to be needed and reviews suitability before starting.
