Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)

Root canal treatment cleans and seals the canals inside a tooth when the nerve is inflamed or infected, allowing a tooth that might otherwise be lost to be kept. At Stomatologia Kucharski the fee depends on how many canals the tooth has, from a single-canal front tooth to a four-canal molar. The work is carried out under local anaesthetic, and the tooth is later restored with a filling or, for heavily broken-down teeth, a crown.

Root canal treatment, or endodontic treatment, is carried out when the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected — often through deep decay, a large failing filling, a crack or trauma. Rather than extracting the tooth, the dentist removes the damaged pulp, cleans and shapes the fine canals inside the roots, disinfects them and fills them with a sealing material so the tooth can be retained and remain functional. At Stomatologia Kucharski the treatment is performed under local anaesthetic for comfort, and the cost is set by the tooth's anatomy: front teeth typically have a single canal, premolars one or two, and molars three or four, which is why the fee rises with the number of canals treated. Depending on the case, a medicated or temporary dressing may be placed between visits before the canals are permanently sealed. Because a root-treated tooth can become more brittle, the dentist will advise on the best final restoration — a filling for smaller cavities, or a crown (which the practice can produce in ceramic or zirconia using its CEREC system) where a lot of tooth structure has been lost.
