Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)

Root canal treatment, or endodontic treatment, is carried out when the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected — often through deep decay, a large failing filling, a crack or trauma. Rather than extracting the tooth, the dentist removes the damaged pulp, cleans and shapes the fine canals inside the roots, disinfects them and fills them with a sealing material so the tooth can be retained and remain functional.
