Type
Extraction
Duration
30 min
Removal of a tooth or retained root that cannot be saved, carried out under local anaesthetic so the procedure is comfortable. Extractions may be needed for severe decay, advanced gum disease, fracture or a tooth that is causing problems. The dentist loosens and removes the tooth, then gives clear aftercare advice to support healing. More complex cases are handled as surgical extractions by the practice's dental surgeon.
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth that can no longer be restored or is causing harm — for example through extensive decay, a fracture below the gum, advanced gum disease that has loosened the tooth, or a retained root left after a tooth has broken down. At Stomatologia Kiepury the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so that the area is fully numb; the dentist gently loosens the tooth within its socket and removes it, taking care to preserve the surrounding bone and gum as far as possible. Straightforward extractions of a tooth or root fall within the standard fee, while more difficult cases are managed as surgical extractions — used when a tooth is broken at the gumline, has curved or divergent roots, or needs to be sectioned and removed in parts. These are carried out by the practice's dental surgeon, Magdalena Warzecha-Maksymczuk. Where an abscess is present and causing swelling, the clinic can also perform an incision and drainage under anaesthetic to relieve pressure and pain. After any extraction the dentist provides aftercare guidance to support clot formation and healing and to reduce the risk of complications, and will discuss options for replacing the missing tooth where appropriate, such as a bridge or denture. Wisdom-tooth and complex surgical assessments are made on an individual basis at consultation.
