About this treatment
Even with good brushing and flossing, plaque hardens over time into tartar (calculus) that can only be removed professionally. Left in place it irritates the gums, leading to bleeding, inflammation and eventually periodontal disease, and it traps stain that dulls the smile. A hygiene appointment at STARDENT clears these deposits and leaves the teeth smooth and clean, which makes day-to-day home care more effective and is associated with healthier gums.
The full visit combines three steps: ultrasonic scaling to break away tartar above and below the gumline, air-polishing (sometimes called sandblasting) that uses a fine jet of powder and water to lift surface stain from coffee, tea and tobacco, and a final mechanical polish to smooth the enamel.
