Plasma IQ Skin Resurfacing

Type

Facial Rejuvenation

Duration

30 min

A non-surgical skin resurfacing treatment using the Plasma IQ device, which delivers controlled plasma energy to the skin surface through a precise nitrogen plasma arc. Treats wrinkles, skin laxity, acne scars, and excess eyelid skin without cuts or sutures.

The Plasma IQ treatment at Spire Clinic uses a medical-grade plasma device that generates a controlled nitrogen plasma arc to deliver thermal energy to the skin surface with sub-millimetre precision. The device ionises nitrogen gas at the tip of a sterile probe, creating a plasma arc that transfers energy to the epidermis on contact. This produces controlled micro-injuries in a dot-matrix pattern — each dot representing a tiny zone of thermal damage surrounded by unaffected skin, similar in concept to fractional laser resurfacing but using plasma energy rather than light. The thermal impact causes immediate tissue contraction at each treatment point, producing a visible tightening effect. Over the following weeks, the controlled micro-injuries stimulate a dermal wound healing response that generates new collagen and elastin fibres, further improving skin firmness and texture. The precision of the plasma arc allows treatment of delicate areas that are difficult to address with lasers — most notably the upper and lower eyelids, where Plasma IQ has become a popular non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty for patients with mild to moderate skin excess. Beyond eyelid treatment, Plasma IQ is used for perioral wrinkles (smoker's lines around the mouth), crow's feet, neck lines, acne scarring, and stretch marks. The dot-matrix pattern can be adjusted in density and energy level — higher density and energy for areas requiring aggressive resurfacing, lower settings for delicate zones or patients who need minimal downtime. Post-treatment, the treated dots form tiny carbon crusts that fall off over 5-7 days, revealing new pink skin beneath that gradually normalises in colour over the following weeks. Patients must avoid sun exposure during healing and apply SPF diligently. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes and is performed under topical anaesthesia. Results continue to improve for 3-6 months as collagen remodelling progresses, with many patients achieving satisfactory results from a single session, though a second treatment can be performed after 8-12 weeks for enhanced correction.
