The Salt Facial is a three-in-one skin treatment system offered at Sona Medical Aesthetics, combining natural sea salt exfoliation, therapeutic ultrasound infusion, and LED phototherapy in a single session to address skin dullness, congestion, texture irregularities, and early signs of aging. The first phase uses a controlled stream of natural sea salt crystals — a physical exfoliant with irregular edges and trace mineral content — to abrade the outermost cornified layer of the epidermis more gently than aluminium oxide crystal microdermabrasion. Unlike synthetic crystal microdermabrasion where sharp-edged crystals can create microscopic lacerations in irregular patterns, natural sea salt crystals dissolve on contact with moist skin, providing a progressive and self-limiting exfoliation that polishes surface texture and removes dead skin build-up without the risk of over-abrading sensitive or reactive skin. The physical exfoliation simultaneously opens follicular pores for improved penetration of subsequently applied active ingredients. The second phase delivers ultrasound waves into the freshly exfoliated skin, producing a sonophoresis effect — the ultrasound pressure waves temporarily increase the permeability of cell membranes and intercellular spaces in the epidermis, significantly enhancing the penetration of topically applied serums (typically containing hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and peptides) compared to passive application alone. The third phase applies LED phototherapy using specific wavelengths targeted to the patient's primary skin concern: red light (approximately 630–660 nm) to stimulate fibroblast activity and support collagen synthesis; blue light (approximately 415–430 nm) to target Cutibacterium acnes bacteria for acne-prone skin; and yellow or amber light for redness and vascular concerns. The combined three-step protocol produces immediate visible improvement in skin brightness and hydration with no significant downtime.
