Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)

Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Endodontic treatment that removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and shapes the canals and seals them, relieving pain and allowing a natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Pricing reflects the number of canals, from a single-canal front tooth to a multi-canal molar. Re-treatment of teeth with existing root fillings is also offered. The tooth is usually restored with a crown or filling afterwards.

Root canal treatment, or endodontics, is carried out when the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed — often from deep decay, a crack or trauma. The procedure involves removing the damaged pulp, carefully cleaning and shaping the fine canals within the root, and then sealing them to prevent reinfection. Done well, it relieves the associated pain and allows you to keep a tooth that might otherwise need to be removed. At Sobota House of Dentistry the cost reflects the complexity: single-canal front teeth are at the lower end, while premolars and molars with more canals cost more, and each extra canal is charged separately. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic, and the clinic's conservative-dentistry and endodontics specialist manages these cases. Where a tooth has been root-treated before but problems persist, re-treatment is possible — reopening the tooth, removing the previous filling material, re-cleaning the canals and resealing them — which is more involved and priced accordingly. After the canals are sealed, the tooth is typically rebuilt with a filling or, for back teeth that take heavy chewing forces, protected with a crown to reduce the risk of fracture. The dentist explains the number of visits likely to be required, what to expect afterwards (some tenderness for a few days is common) and how best to restore and care for the tooth so it serves well long term.
