About this treatment
When a tooth has been missing for some time, the surrounding bone often shrinks, and in the upper back jaw the air-filled sinus can sit too low to allow an implant. Bone augmentation and sinus lift procedures address these limitations so that an implant can be placed into a stable, adequately supported site. Bone augmentation involves adding grafting material to increase the width or height of the jaw ridge, which then matures into solid bone over a healing period. A sinus lift gently raises the membrane lining the sinus floor and places graft material beneath it, creating the vertical height needed for an upper implant.
