Tooth Extraction

Type

Extraction

Duration

40 min

Removal of a tooth that cannot be saved, carried out under local anaesthetic — from a straightforward single-rooted extraction to the surgical removal of a molar or an impacted wisdom tooth. At SmileStudio the fee reflects the complexity of the tooth and whether surgical access is needed. The dentist will discuss options to replace the tooth, such as an implant or bridge, where appropriate.

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that is too damaged by decay, fracture, infection or gum disease to be restored, or that needs to come out for another reason such as crowding or an impacted wisdom tooth. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so the area is fully numb. A straightforward extraction of a single-rooted tooth — an incisor, canine or premolar — is the simplest case, while molars and surgical extractions that require sectioning the tooth or removing a small amount of bone are more involved and priced accordingly. Wisdom teeth are a common reason for extraction: an erupted, accessible wisdom tooth is more straightforward, whereas one that is impacted beneath the gum or bone requires a minor surgical procedure and is therefore priced higher. SmileStudio carries out surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, and uses cone-beam CBCT imaging where needed to assess root position and nearby structures before surgery. After an extraction you will be given clear aftercare instructions to protect the healing socket and reduce the risk of complications such as a dry socket; some swelling and discomfort for a few days is normal and managed with simple pain relief. Where a tooth is removed from a visible or functionally important position, the dentist will discuss replacement options — most often a dental implant, a bridge or a denture — and the best timing for these. Any sutures placed are removed at a short follow-up visit.
