A dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that is cemented over a prepared tooth to rebuild it when too much natural structure has been lost to decay, fracture or large fillings, or to protect a tooth after root-canal treatment. The tooth is shaped, an impression or digital scan is taken, and the crown is made to restore the tooth's form, function and appearance. Treatment usually involves two stages — preparation and a temporary crown at the first visit, then fitting and cementing the final crown once it is ready. Local anaesthetic keeps the preparation comfortable, and the dentist checks the fit, bite and shade carefully before the crown is bonded in place; cementation of a crown, bridge or veneer is itemised separately in the price list. Where a root-treated tooth has lost significant structure, a post (fibreglass or a non-nickel metal core) may first be placed to retain the crown, with these priced from 500 to 800 zł. For a single missing tooth, an adhesive fibreglass bridge offers a more conservative fixed option that bonds to a neighbouring tooth without extensive preparation. With good hygiene and regular check-ups, crowns are durable and long-lasting.
