CBCT Cone-Beam 3D Scan

Type

CT Scan

Duration

20 min

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces a detailed three-dimensional X-ray of the jaws and teeth, used to plan implants, assess impacted teeth, examine root canals and investigate other conditions that a flat X-ray cannot show. SmileStudio offers full-arch, single-jaw and small sectored scans, as well as digital panoramic imaging, priced by the area captured so you only pay for what is needed.

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a specialised dental scan that captures a three-dimensional image of the teeth, jawbone, sinuses and surrounding structures at a far lower radiation dose than a medical CT. The 3D view gives information that conventional two-dimensional X-rays cannot — the exact height, width and density of bone for implant planning, the position of an impacted wisdom tooth relative to nerves and sinuses, the anatomy of root canals, and the assessment of cysts, fractures or other lesions. SmileStudio uses CBCT as part of its digital workflow and prices scans by the volume captured: a full scan of both jaws, a single jaw, or a small sectored scan covering just three or four teeth, with a digital panoramic (pantomogram) also available. The scan itself is quick and non-invasive — you sit or stand still while the scanner rotates around your head, typically taking well under a minute of acquisition. The resulting images are reviewed by the dentist to plan treatment accurately and safely, which is associated with more predictable surgery and fewer surprises during procedures such as implant placement or surgical extractions. Capturing only the area needed keeps the radiation exposure and the cost proportionate to the clinical question. Imaging is requested when it will genuinely add to diagnosis or planning, and the dentist explains why a scan is recommended and what it shows. CBCT and panoramic imaging are also useful for second opinions and for sharing a clear picture of complex cases with patients.
