Root Canal
Duration

Microscope-assisted root canal treatment that removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, disinfects the canal system and seals it to save a tooth that would otherwise be lost. Working under a treatment microscope and modern rotary instruments improves accuracy in the fine canal anatomy. At SmileOn the price scales with the number of canals, and re-treatment of previously root-filled teeth is also offered. A protective crown or build-up is usually advised afterwards.
Root canal (endodontic) treatment is carried out when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp, containing its nerve and blood supply — becomes irreversibly inflamed or infected, often from deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause severe pain and abscess formation and ultimately the loss of the tooth. The treatment removes the diseased pulp, cleans and shapes the narrow canals inside the roots, disinfects them and fills them with a sealing material, allowing the natural tooth to be kept. At SmileOn Dental Studio endodontics is performed under a dental operating microscope, which magnifies and illuminates the canal openings so the dentist can locate and treat even fine or curved canals accurately, supported by modern rotary instrumentation and on-site X-ray to check working length. The cost reflects how many canals a tooth has — front teeth often have a single canal while molars may have three or four — with additional canals and re-treatment of teeth that were root-filled previously (re-endo) priced accordingly. Treatment may be completed in one or more visits depending on the tooth and the level of infection, usually under local anaesthetic. Because a root-treated tooth becomes more brittle, the clinic generally recommends restoring it afterwards with a build-up and often a crown to protect it from fracture; these are quoted separately. Root canal treatment suits patients with a salvageable but badly damaged or infected tooth who want to avoid extraction. The endodontic consultation, including assessment and X-rays, establishes whether the tooth can be saved and how many canals are involved.
