Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that is too damaged, decayed, broken or problematic to save, carried out under local anaesthetic. Smile Studio handles routine extractions as well as surgical removal of broken-down, wisdom and impacted teeth, performed by a dentist focused on oral surgery. Where helpful, platelet-rich fibrin prepared from the patient's own blood can be placed in the socket to support healing.
An extraction removes a tooth from its socket and is recommended when a tooth cannot be saved — for example because of severe decay, advanced gum disease, a fracture below the gum, or a wisdom tooth that is impacted or repeatedly infected. At Smile Studio routine (non-surgical) extractions are priced by tooth, while more complex cases — surgical removal of broken-down teeth, wisdom teeth and impacted teeth — are carried out by a dentist who concentrates on oral surgery and are priced according to difficulty. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so the area is fully numb; a simple extraction loosens and lifts the tooth out, whereas a surgical extraction may involve a small incision in the gum or sectioning the tooth to remove it in pieces, sometimes with stitches afterwards. To support healing, particularly after more involved removals, the clinic can prepare platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) from a small sample of your own blood and place it in the socket. You are given clear aftercare advice to protect the clot and reduce the risk of complications, and any stitches and sockets can be reviewed afterwards. Where a tooth is being removed, the dentist will also discuss options for replacing it — such as an implant, bridge or denture — since planning a replacement early helps preserve the bite and the surrounding bone. Suitability, the type of extraction and the need for any follow-up are assessed at examination with X-rays.
