Type
Microneedling
Duration
1 hour
Microneedling at Skinderm Ostrava uses a motorised derma pen with adjustable needle depth (0.25–2.5 mm) to create thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin, triggering a wound-healing response that produces new collagen and elastin. The treatment is performed with topical numbing cream for comfort and takes about 60 minutes. Results accumulate across sessions: skin texture improves, acne scars become shallower, enlarged pores tighten, and hyperpigmentation fades as the renewed dermal matrix matures over the following weeks.
Microneedling (collagen induction therapy) works on the principle that controlled micro-injuries to the dermis activate the skin's natural repair cascade without causing the same level of epidermal damage as ablative lasers. The derma pen's oscillating needles puncture the epidermis and enter the dermis at a set depth, stimulating fibroblasts to upregulate collagen I, collagen III, and elastin production. The microchannels also temporarily increase transdermal permeability, allowing topically applied active serums to penetrate far deeper than normal — a window of enhanced absorption that lasts roughly 4–6 hours post-procedure. At Skinderm, topical anaesthetic cream is applied 30–45 minutes before the procedure begins. The physician selects the needle depth based on the treatment area and indication: shallower depths (0.25–0.5 mm) for general hydration and fine lines; mid-range (0.75–1.5 mm) for enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, and mild texture; deeper settings (1.5–2.5 mm) for acne scars and stretch marks. Multiple passes are made across the target area in different directions to ensure even coverage. A soothing serum is applied immediately after. The skin appears red and slightly swollen after treatment — resembling a mild sunburn — and this resolves within 24–48 hours for most patients. Peeling may occur at 3–5 days as the microchannels heal. SPF 50 is mandatory in the days following treatment. Makeup should be avoided for 24 hours post-procedure. Microneedling is particularly effective for post-acne scarring (ice-pick, rolling, and boxcar scars), uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, and superficial hyperpigmentation. It is also used to stimulate mild lifting of lax skin and can be combined with PRP (applied topically during needling) for enhanced biological effect. A course of 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typically recommended; the total number depends on the severity of the concern being addressed. Contraindications include active acne breakouts, rosacea in active flare, open wounds, eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area, pregnancy, nursing, keloid-scar tendency, and use of isotretinoin within the past 6 months.
