LUMECCA IPL Photorejuvenation

LUMECCA is an intense pulsed light (IPL) device by InMode that delivers high-intensity broad-spectrum light pulses to target pigment and vascular lesions in the deeper layers of the skin. At Skinderm Ostrava — the first clinic in the region to introduce LUMECCA — the treatment addresses sun damage, age spots, uneven skin tone, visible vessels, and redness in as few as 1–3 sessions with no recovery downtime beyond mild redness lasting hours. The procedure requires no anaesthesia and takes approximately 30 minutes for a full face.

LUMECCA by InMode is classified as an IPL (intense pulsed light) device, but is engineered to deliver a significantly higher photon density per pulse compared with conventional IPL systems. The device emits broad-spectrum light in the 500–1,200 nm range through a chilled sapphire tip; at each pulse, melanin in pigmented lesions and oxyhaemoglobin in vascular structures selectively absorb the light energy and convert it to heat, causing the targeted chromophore to break down or coagulate without damaging the surrounding skin. This selective photothermolysis principle means LUMECCA can treat multiple lesion types in the same session. At Skinderm — which was the first clinic in Ostrava to acquire LUMECCA — the session begins with a consultation and contraindication screening. The clinician selects the appropriate fluence (energy density) for the patient's skin phototype and the lesions being treated. A cooling gel is applied; the chilled sapphire tip is placed flush with the skin and pulses are delivered methodically across the treatment zone. Each pulse feels like a brief snap or warmth; no anaesthetic is required. A full face treatment takes 20–30 minutes. Pigmented lesions (sun spots, age spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, freckles, seborrhoeic keratosis) initially darken in the 3–5 days following treatment as oxidised melanin rises to the surface, then shed naturally as tiny crusts over the following week, revealing clearer skin beneath. Vascular lesions (telangiectasia, rosacea-associated redness, spider veins, poikiloderma) turn greyish immediately after the pulse then clear progressively over 2–4 weeks. Skin tone generally appears more even and luminous by 2 weeks post-session. For most patients, 1–3 sessions at 4-week intervals produce the desired outcome; heavily sun-damaged skin may require additional sessions. LUMECCA is used for age spots, café-au-lait marks, solar lentigos, telangiectasia, diffuse redness, rosacea, cherry angiomas, and general photoageing. Contraindications: pregnancy or nursing, active cancer, acute skin infections, photosensitivity disorders, medications that cause photosensitisation (certain antibiotics, retinoids, some antidepressants), recent self-tanning or natural tan (wait at least 2 weeks after tanning). Fitzpatrick skin types V–VI require a patch test and adjusted parameters due to higher melanin density. Sun avoidance and SPF 50 are mandatory for 2 weeks before and after treatment.
