Laser Tattoo Removal

Type

Laser

Duration

30 min

Laser tattoo removal at SKIN CARE Liberec uses a laser selectively absorbed by tattoo ink pigments to fragment them into micro-particles that the immune system clears over weeks. Different ink colours absorb different wavelengths, which is why the clinic uses an advanced laser platform capable of targeting multiple ink types. Black, dark blue, and dark green inks typically respond fastest; yellow, white, and light pastels require more sessions due to their lower laser absorption. The skin peels within five to seven days of each session as the superficial ink is expelled; complete healing is seven to twenty-one days. Up to ten sessions at six-to-eight-week intervals may be needed for complete removal, with individual results varying by ink colour, tattoo age, skin tone, and ink depth. A cover-up lightening protocol — fewer sessions to fade rather than fully remove — is also available.

Laser tattoo removal works on the principle of selective photothermolysis applied to the ink pigments deposited in the dermis by the tattooing needle. Tattoo ink particles are too large for the immune system's phagocytic cells to engulf and remove on their own — which is why tattoos are permanent. The laser breaks this constraint: when the correct wavelength is delivered in nanosecond or picosecond pulses, the rapid heating creates a photoacoustic shockwave within the ink particle that fragments it into micro-particles small enough for macrophages to engulf and transport to the lymphatic system for clearance. At SKIN CARE Liberec, the advanced laser platform is used to address multiple ink colours. Different pigment colours absorb different wavelengths preferentially: black ink absorbs nearly all wavelengths (fastest response), dark blue and green absorb Nd:YAG 1064 nm well, red and orange absorb well at KTP 532 nm, and lighter colours (yellow, white, light pastel) have weaker absorption at any wavelength and therefore require more sessions. This is a fundamental physical constraint of all laser tattoo removal — not a limitation specific to any single device. The number of sessions required depends on five main factors: ink colour and density, depth of ink placement (professional tattoos with consistent depth generally clear more predictably), age of the tattoo (older tattoos have already partially faded as the body slowly clears ink), client skin tone (Fitzpatrick types I–III allow more aggressive settings), and immune system efficiency. Up to ten sessions at six-to-eight-week intervals is the range for complete removal; many clients achieve acceptable clearance in four to seven sessions. Each session takes approximately 30 minutes. The laser energy causes an immediate whitening reaction (frosting) as the ink is fragmented and tissue water vapourises around it. Over the following five to seven days, the skin in the treated area peels, bringing superficial ink fragments with it. Deeper ink clears more slowly via macrophage transport. Complete healing per session is seven to twenty-one days depending on session intensity. Sun protection of the treated area is essential between sessions. For clients who want to lighten a tattoo for cover-up rather than full removal, the protocol is the same but with fewer sessions planned.
