Shine Dermatology provides both laser and surgical mole removal under the care of a consultant dermatologist. All excised lesions are assessed clinically for signs of malignancy, and histopathology can be arranged for concerning lesions.
About this treatment
Mole removal at Shine Dermatology Clinic is a medically supervised procedure guided by clinical assessment of each lesion before any intervention. Unlike purely aesthetic clinics, every mole at Shine Dermatology is evaluated by Dr Rajaratnam using dermoscopy — a clinical technique that visualises subsurface structures invisible to the naked eye — to determine whether the lesion is benign, atypical, or concerning for malignancy.
For benign pigmented moles with a flat or raised profile, SmartXide Ablative CO2 laser removal is the preferred approach. The laser ablates the lesion with precision, layer by layer, without the need for sutures in most cases. Healing typically occurs within seven to fourteen days, and the risk of visible scarring is low when performed by an experienced clinician. This technique is particularly well suited to facial moles where cosmetic outcome is…
For lesions that are clinically uncertain, atypical in appearance, or located in areas where laser removal would be contraindicated, surgical excision under local anaesthesia is performed. The specimen is then sent for histopathological analysis by a certified laboratory to confirm the diagnosis. This is the same standard applied in hospital dermatology departments.
