About
The Hyperbaric & Diving Medicine Centre at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is the premier clinical hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) facility in Singapore, part of SingHealth — the country's largest public healthcare cluster. Located at SGH's main campus on Outram Road, the centre operates a multiplace hyperbaric chamber capable of treating multiple patients simultaneously at pressures of 2–3 ATA (equivalent to 10–20 metres below sea level). The facility is staffed by a team of trained hyperbaric medicine specialists and operates a 24-hour emergency diving accident hotline for decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism. Clinical indications treated include problem wound management (particularly diabetic foot ulcers and chronic non-healing wounds), carbon monoxide poisoning, crush injuries, necrotising soft tissue infections (necrotising fasciitis), compromised skin flaps and grafts, and radiation-induced tissue injury. As part of a tertiary academic medical centre, the unit maintains international accreditation standards and adheres to Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) guidelines. Patients are typically referred by their attending specialist but self-referrals may also be accommodated via an initial consultation. SGH's HBOT centre represents the clinical gold standard in Singapore, distinct from private wellness HBOT providers.
